NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDFaro Bianco
We leave the harbour and right at the mouth stands Faro Bianco at Punta Craulo: a real lighthouse, built in 1930 by the Italian Navy. First stop on the North tour.
NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDGrotta Monaca
A narrow inlet between limestone cliffs north of Otranto, in the San Pietro channel: this is where Grotta Monaca opens, nearly 85 metres deep. Legend has it the name comes from the Mediterranean monk seal, once found in these waters.
NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDMulino d'Acqua bay
A bay set between cliffs north of Otranto, named after an old water mill that once stood here and is long gone — only the name remains. The beach has largely disappeared, and the bay is best seen from the sea.

In Mulino d’Acqua bay there is a cave with a collapsed roof: from the water you see the hole to the sky and the light pouring in from above.
NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDGrotta delle Conchiglie
Next to Grotta Sfondata, still in Mulino d’Acqua: a wide entrance and an inner tunnel you can swim through, with just enough headroom to breathe.
NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDBaia Morrone
A tight cove between two walls, halfway between Mulino d’Acqua and Baia dei Turchi. More enclosed than its neighbour, less crowded.
NORTHNORTH EXTENDEDBaia dei Turchi
A crescent of fine sand in the pine forest, within the Alimini Lakes protected oasis. The name recalls the Ottoman landing of 1480, just before the siege of Otranto.
NORTH EXTENDEDBaia Alimini
After Baia dei Turchi the landscape shifts: lagoon on one side, open Adriatic on the other. This stretch opens the North Extended route.
NORTH EXTENDEDFrassanito
A long stretch of sand towards Torre Sant’Andrea: dunes and pine forest behind the shore, more open sea than the base North tour bays.
NORTH EXTENDEDSant'Andrea sea stacks
Limestone sea stacks and walls off Torre Sant’Andrea, finale of the North Extended tour. The best known, the Lovers’ Arch, collapsed in the storm of 14-15 February 2026: it now lies on the seabed, and that stretch of coast already looks different.
